Praying Specifically

Have you ever thought about asking God for something specific, but you didn't because you thought you would be disappointed when He didn't give you what you asked for? Well, God does want us to ask for specific things.
Remember when Jesus said
Mat 7:7  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Mat 7:8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Mat 7:9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Mat 7:10  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

Did you notice that he used specific requests in his comparisons?

Consider these scriptures, also.
1Jn 5:14  And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
1Jn 5:15  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

I want to tell you about specific prayers the Lord answered for me on two different occasions. I am not trying to brag, and I do not promote the "name it and claim it" stuff. I just want to encourage you that you can pray specifically and receive your needs from God.

Specific Prayer #1:
Our car was destroyed in a tornado in 2008. When we were shopping for a replacement, I asked my husband if he thought we should pray and ask the Lord for exactly what we wanted in a vehicle. We wanted something nice but not too fancy, something that would be comfortable that would get good gas mileage. Long story short, we asked the Lord that if it would please Him we would like to have a white Mercury Marquis LS with tan, leather seats and chrome wheels. We also asked Him to let it be a price range we could handle payments on. Believe it, or not, that very same day the car dealer that was helping us called and said he had found a car of that exact description. We were out of town, but we knew it was our answer, so we told him we wanted it. We actually agreed to buy the car, sight unseen. Another blessing is that we pulled in to a restaurant later that day and saw "our" car. It wasn't THE car but one exactly like the one we were buying, that we hadn't seen. Somebody said, "Wow! Isn't that a nice car, I wonder if ours will look like that." We  have had the car for three years now, and we are still thanking God for it!

Specific Prayer #2
Yesterday I was consignment store shopping, with my three grown children (a rare opportunity) for a specific item of clothing for a family member. After we went to the first store and didn't find it, I just said out loud in the car, "Dear Lord, it would be such a blessing if you would let us find...", and I named the item. The next store we went to had a sign outside that said clothes 1/2 off. We walked in and made our way to the clothing section in the back. I looked on the rack and found the item in the right color and size, and it still had the original store tags on it!!! The consignment tag said $10, so I got it for $5, a small fraction of the new price!

So the next time you have a real need, ask the Lord for that specific thing and watch Him work! Talk about a faith booster! Praise His name for answered prayer!

Blessings!
