April Fool's Day is coming up, and some of you are pranksters, aren't you? It can be fun to play little tricks on people. If you google it, you can find some great, harmless April Fools Day pranks. Some examples are the spilled nail polish prank (let a bottle spill and dry on wax paper, then place on something belonging to your victim), the bubble wrap under the toilet seat prank, the paper stuck in the copier prank, and the list goes on.
Some Christians like to joke about April 1st being the atheist's holiday. I was thinking about the word fool in the Bible. Seventy-three times in 69 verses the word fool is found throughout the Word of God. There are at least two passages where God labels someone a fool?
However, there is another passage where God names someone a fool in Luke 12. Luke 12:16-21 The rich man in this passage was a fool because he gave no thought of preparation for eternity. He was all caught up in his treasures, hoarding them up, planning as if he had many years to "eat drink and be merry." He was clutching to the temporal.
I heard a story about a corpse that was found outside the Italian city of Pompeii in the destructive path of a volcano. It was a woman who had tried to flee from the impending doom. But interestingly she held in her hand some jewels. She lost her life while clinging to the jewels.
Let us be reminded that we need to be prepared for eternity. The apostle Paul, under divine inspiration, told the Corinthians "examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith" 1 Cor. 13:5. First and foremost we must know that we are going to heaven. Go to the link if you are unsure.
(The Plan of Salvation) I don't want to take for granted that everyone reading this post is saved. Those of you who are saved and sure will understand.
We will take nothing material from this world when our body succumbs to death. Also, the Lord could return at any moment and our state of reward will be fixed. Let's build our treasures in heaven by investing in things that God says we can take with us. We can serve others and we will be rewarded in heaven. We can win souls and take spiritual children with us to heaven. We can build up treasures in heaven by obeying the Word of God and following His leading in our lives. God will not call us fools but wise if we make sure our soul is ready to meet Him and tell others how they can be sure (Matthew 7:24, Proverbs 11:30).
