How can we know what we should be doing for Christ? Well, we can always look to Jesus for our example. What was his main thing? Was it miracles, preaching, healing? All these things were important, but they were only tools he used to promote his main ministry. In Luke 19:10 and Matthew 18:11 Jesus himself tells us what was his main work on earth and therefore what should be ours. "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
I. We should be sharing the good news of salvation with as many people as we have opportunity.
Often times christian people complain about the mess this world is in. Yet we have the solution to the sin problem which caused the mess in the first place. When people surrender their life to Christ he changes them from the inside out.
II. We should be seeking the lost.
We can change the world one heart at a time when we share the gospel. The answer is not education, or money or any other worldly thing. It is Jesus in the heart. Yes we should do all we can in the political arena, we should vote and rally and pray, etc. But if we are not doing our part witnessing, we have no right to complain.
III. We should be shining .
God help us to not hide our light under a bushel. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
So often Satan hinders our walk with the Lord by drawing our attention to the things that won't matter in eternity. He uses bad things in our lives such as trials, tribulations, temptations, etc. Sometimes he even uses good things that are not the best things. Remember when Martha was working in the kitchen and she basically rebuked Jesus asking him to tell Mary to help her. Jesus said in Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Mary seized the moment and sat at Jesus feet while she could. In so doing, she was one of the few who understood that he would die for our sins and rise again. She even anointed his body before he was dead. Read about it in John 12:3-8.
IV. We need to be seizing the moment.
We should spend time in the Word of God regularly. Then as he empowers us through his Word and by the Holy Spirit, we should look for opportunities to give the gospel to those who don't know the Lord in a personal relationship.
V. We need to solicit the Savior for Souls.
Only God can save a soul. John 6:44 tells us that no person can get saved unless the Father is drawing him or her.
Lord please help us to be witnesses for you whereever we go. Help us to recognize the opportunities to witness as you give them. In the name that is above all, Jesus!
