Why does a woman's name change when she gets married?

Have you ever wondered where that tradition comes from?
Well, I'm sure there are many explanations out there, but I found a good enough reason. We know that Adam named all the animals, but he also named his wife. First he gave her a creature name, woman, in Gen. 2:23. "And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Then he gave her a personal name, Eve. Genesis 3:20. "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." She didn't even have children yet, but God knew that mother would be the highest calling in her life. One may say, "What about the barren? They can't help it." Well, I have known several barren women who have made the best adoptive mothers. Even if they didn't legally adopt, they did in practice. It makes perfect sense that a woman should take the last name of her husband because the first woman was named by her husband.

It's interesting how a lot of our life today that we takefor granted is based on the Bible and no one realizes it.

Thanks for sharing.

I think this view of things is really narrow minded and simplistic.
